For the Klaviyo people
flows that fetch?
Last month, I helped a client to upgrade a very high-value email automation before a big influx of new traffic.
This month, I’ve taken a peek inside of a couple of Klaviyo accounts to help trouble shoot problems and offer suggestions for improvement.
And I’ve been thinking…
Lots of eCom brands under $100k per month in revenue are still using Klaviyo’s default flow templates.
And some of them are missing critical flows entirely, losing out on 10% - 30% of the total revenue they could be making.
Not only that, but small mistakes in how flows are triggered can cause customers to get the wrong email at the wrong time, or to miss important messages altogether.
Causing confusion while sending the same generic, boring emails as everyone else is a guaranteed way to increase churn and spam complaints…
Resulting in fewer repeat customers, slower growth, and razor thin profit margins.
The “conventional” solutions have big problems:
You can hire an email marketing agency to fix your flows, but they’ll want a big upfront fee, a monthly retainer, or both.
(It’s expensive for them to make payroll while sitting on a beach in Bali.)
An A-list freelancer might skip upfront fees and retainers, but then ask for a percentage of total flow revenue. Forever.
(I’ve seen freelancers who demand 20%, 30%, even 50% of flow revenue for the lifetime of your business, meaning they’ll be sitting on a beach in Bali while you struggle to reorder inventory and pay for customer acquisition every single month. You’ll end up wondering who’s working for who…)
Or maybe you try the “$50 on Fiverr” route. Good luck, and be aware that the agencies and freelancers will charge you extra to undo or fix any damage “Fiverr Guy” may cause.
But as I was looking at the flows inside of several accounts this month, I had an idea for something.
What if there was a way to implement the same sophisticated flows used by 7, 8, and 9 figure brands without sacrificing short term or long term cash flow?
What if earlier stage brands had access to flows that delivered the right message to the right customer at the right time, maximizing conversions, average order value, and purchase frequency without sacrificing margins to coupon codes or burning customers out?
While most agencies and service providers flex “revenue from email” or “revenue per subscriber” to appeal to people’s desire for a short-term revenue boost, these metrics can be “gamed” by including more aggressive discounts and sales messages, boosting short term revenue at the expense of profitability and long term customer value.
Instead, early stage brands need flows that maximize total repeat customers and customer lifetime value. This means that each customer they acquire will spend more and stay longer. This is the only way to build long-term traction.
I have an idea of how to do this, but don’t know if anyone would want it.
So can you do me a favor?
If you’re a brand between $20k and $100k monthly revenue using Klaviyo for email marketing, can I have a quick chat with you?
It’ll be a 10-15 minute market research convo, not a stealth sales call.
I’ll compensate any volunteers with some free access to Email Magic stuff.
