Knowledge is power

but ignorance is bliss

I know basically nothing about SEO.

Even though SEO brought me 12 new email subscribers in the last few weeks:

seo 1

And SEO was responsible for some traffic and sales on a Shopify site I help with. Searches for an obscure, niche search term that the product page somehow ranked for. Sales (and SEO traffic) took a hit when the product went out of stock:

seo 2

Now, if I wanted to harness the power of SEO, I’d have to find a way to track the information that affects it.

Like my domain reputation.

And my backlink quality and quantity.

And my keyword rank for high volume, high relevance search terms.

Instead, I ignore all of these things and just smile when I get SEO leads and sales by accident.

But this approach is not for everyone.

Some of you are hard-charging, data driven perfectionists.

You want to split test and optimize your way to infinity.

You MUST know where that traffic is coming from, and how you can crank the dial on it.

If that’s you, you should be using ahrefs.

They’re the Gold Standard in web intelligence.

Better than Semrush, better than Backlinko.

All the OG bloggers know what I’m talking about…

But the problem is, they’re traditionally VERY expensive.

(For good reason.)

However, they recently introduced a newbie package for those of us who simply want to dip a toe.

Something that makes sense in a comprehensive analytics tech stack without breaking the bank.

Lookie here:

Personally, I choose SEO ignorance. Wildly slinging ad creative and poo-posting on social media is more my style.

But I realize many of you will want something more respectable, more predictable.

If that’s you, go check out ahrefs through the link above.

Back tomorrow,

Greg
