For the 99% who want to be the 1%

a Lebanese hustler

He was standing near the edge of the loading dock, cigarette in one hand, cell phone in the other held up to his ear.

I couldn’t hear what he was saying this time, but earlier in the day I’d overheard part of another phone call.

He was definitely selling stuff.

Was our shipping manager dealing drugs on the side?

I remember being intensely curious about this guy, a tall Lebanese fellow with charisma and perfect hair, who had been running the warehouse for the last 2 years.

I didn’t know much about him other than he was excellent at his job but had already declined one opportunity for advancement.

Finally, one day I caught him at lunch.

“Hey man, I’m just curious. What’s with the constant phone calls? It sounds like you’re working some sort of side hustle.”

He smiled.

“I am,” he said. “It’s this.”

He gestured around us.

“Huh?” I asked.

This is my side hustle. This job. It provides my family with insurance, some paid vacations, and I can run my real business from my phone part time.”

The look on my face must have betrayed my confusion, because he continued.

“I have a used car business. My friend is an auto mechanic, and I pay him a couple hundred bucks to come to used car auctions with me a couple times per month.”

“He looks at the cars and tells me which ones to buy and for how much. I spend a couple thousand on some cars, then flip them online for double or triple what I paid.”

“I’ve got some cousins who handle the handoffs, and I pay the a few hundred per car. I handle buyer questions on the phone.”

“I net 3-5 times more per month than they pay me here.”

He paused.

My brain was moving at light speed, but my mouth had yet to catch up.

“What.” It was more of a statement than a question.

He took a bite of his sandwich, chewed and swallowed before continuing.

“Listen Greg, there are two types of people in this world. People who think about what they want to buy, and people who think about what they could sell. The first group are the 99% who are broke, and the second group are the 1% who are rich.”

Even though this conversation happened nearly 20 years ago, I still remember it vividly and think about it a lot.

Buying stuff vs. selling stuff.

The contrast is stark, this week in particular.

Many are already shopping for deals, looking for things to buy.

But others are busy selling to those buyers.

I also know that the transition from a “buyer of things” to a “seller of things” can be difficult and painful.

There is so much to learn and do.

So for those of you on the cusp of the transition, I have a helping hand to offer.

I’d like to offer you something to sell.

Promo FOMO is easily one of the most popular trainings I’ve ever created, helping people design highly successful promotions for their business.

But the methods can be used any time, not just the Friday after Thanksgiving.

It’s a money multiplier for anyone who runs an online business and used social media + email.

The course is currently $200, and I’m looking for some folks to help me get the word out.

I am offering 75% affiliate commissions for Promo FOMO through the end of the year.

If you sign up as an affiliate and sell one course, I’ll pay you $150.

You also have the option of sharing a $50 off discount code with people, which will boost conversions but lower your commission to $112.50.

If you’re stuck in between the 99% and the 1%, this may be the nudge you need.

There’s still time to make more than you spend this week. :)

To sign you up I need to send a program invite, so reply to this email if you’re interested.

Take care,

Greg
