The random mention that made my ads work better

Over the last few days I’ve been sharing some of my more embarrassing traffic fails.

But today let me share a recent win.

I’ve been running Facebook ads for some products. Recently they’ve been performing... okay.

2.5x ROAS, not great, not terrible.

Then a few weeks ago something weird happened.

A tiny influencer with a modest following (about 5K) posted about our product.

No sponsorship. No affiliate arrangement. She just genuinely liked it and shared it with her audience.

Her post didn't drive massive direct sales (maybe 10-15 orders).

But in the following days, I noticed something interesting...

My Facebook ads started performing significantly better.

The ROAS jumped from 2.5X to 4X.

Same audiences. Same creative. Same budget.

Just a lot more attributed sales for the same ad spend.

What changed?

It took me a while to figure it out, but then it hit me:

Some of the people seeing my ads had already seen that influencer's post.

They didn't buy directly from her link, but when they later saw my ad, they remembered her recommendation.

It created a powerful reinforcement effect.

The ads were the second time they’d seen the product, not the first.

This is the power of what I call the “spillover effect."

When someone your audience trusts recommends your product, it creates a halo effect that makes ALL your marketing more effective.
